What will you need to get a cable modem?

1.

You must be in a fully upgraded area of town. Please call the office at 985-384-8335 or email us at info@atvci.net to insure you are in a fully upgraded area

2.

We recommend that you to have a network card installed in your computer and fully functional prior to scheduling your setup. Our modems do support USB however a network card is the recommended means of connecting the modem to your computer for a faster more reliable connection. For where to purchase check out local providers.

3.

You need to have a television cable line within 10 feet of the desired destination of the modem. The service is not constrained to distance. This distance is generally the extent that a line can be extended outside the wall without being an eyesore. If you don't have a line you will need to call and get an outlet added (this consists of a RG6 Shielded Cable and a Digital 5-1000 Mhz Splitter it will be installed prior to the modem installation and certified for digital connections.

What type of computer will I need you ask?
Well the Internet Service is compatible with most Apple and PCs in today's market.

What is a Network Interface Card?
( NIC ) ( Ethernet Card )

Where can I get it?

ATVCI.net recommends you have a NIC card installed and operational before setting up an appointment for the cable modem to be installed.

A NIC has a RJ45 jack which is bigger than a phone jack. This is located on a Network Card on the back of a computer. The card in question usually only one plug in on it not two.

Cable modems and other high speed data connections must have this installed to work.
You must have installed and working to connect your computer to the network 'Internet'.

RJ45 -    The very technical term for the plug that fits
into your Ethernet  jack.  It is the size
              specification of an Ethernet port

TCP/IP - Transmission Control Protocol.
Used by programs such as Netscape,
Explorer, Telnet,  and FTP to communicate.

You can install it yourself or have a computer shop do it for you. You can pick up a NIC card at any of your local computer stores

Cable must be ran to your PC prior to the cable modem installation .

Your PC has to have a network card installed and operational prior to installation of the cable modem. It must be setup and working properly prior to our arrival.
